Three..again

Well Sister Harrison and I now have a third Sister Allen. She has been here for about 2 weeks now. She is from Idaho and has been out on her mission for about 5 months. She is a sweetie and I am happy to have her.The work is going along. We had 2 baptisms 2 weeks ago. Nicole and Linda. Both are doing so good. In fact we are going to go to the Temple with both of them to do baptisms for the dead. It will be incredible.

I am anxious to come home, but feeling more and more sad to leave these people that I have served around for 7 months now. I hope everyone is doing well.

Well I received my last transfer call of my mission, and I am staying here! Dying in the desert. I always wanted that. I am also staying with my greenie Sister Harrison. Poor girl has to kill me off.

Our investigator Nicole is set for baptism on the 17th of January. She is so excited and is inviting all sorts of non-members. We taught her last night. She could not be more prepared. Our other investigator Linda has been reading this giant biography about Joseph Smith and said she wouldnt know if he was a prophet until she finished it. I told her that the Holy Ghost already knows that he was and if she would listen more to her heart and not her intelect then she would know too. She called on Sunday and said that she doesnt need to finish it and that the Lord is speaking to her. Woo! We see her tomorrow so we will hopefully set a date with her.

I cant believe it is 2009. 2008 flew by. We are excited for what this new year holds as I am sure all of you are.

Baby, It's Cold Outside!

Its snowing! I am in the desert of southern California and its snowing! Amazing. All the schools have shut down due to the half inch of snow. The only freeway that connects the desert to the valley is closed. We are held hostage here until the snow stops. It seems a lot colder than it normally does when it snows, and I think that is because I am in a skirt. BREEZY!

Our investigators are doing spledid. We have more progressing investigators right now than I have ever had at one time on my mission. It is such a testimony builder to me that Heavenly Father really does hear and answer our prayers. That he blesses us when we are obedient and diligent.

We went caroling on Monday night with the singles ward for FHE. It was so much fun. We gave the people we caroled to some cookies and then a wrapped present. Either the Book of Mormon, or Joy to the World DVD. Everyone loved it. We are going as a zone tonight and Saturday night. It is such a great way to spread the Christmas and Gospel cheer!

Miracle on Spring Valley Parkway.

Christmas time again! How is it that I have been a missionary for this long? Well, I am still here in Apple Valley, only Sister Rasmussen and Bowers are gone, and I have a greenie. Her name is Sister Harrison. She is from Colorado. She majored in music and plays the harp. She is doing really well and learning really quickly. I must say that training has been quite the humbling experience.

We had a plethora of miracles this past week. This lady Linda that has been coming to church started taking the lessons. She loves it so much that she wants them twice a week. I love it. She reads and reads and reads. On Sunday she brought two friends with her that want to learn too, and then last night she told us that she has another friend! Amazing. Then another member brought a friend to church, and on Monday we went to her house, just to visit. She asked us who Joseph Smith was. We taught her the first. She loved it. She is going to read, and come to church next week. Then in the singles ward a kid who is getting ready to go a mission brought his non member girlfriend to church and she wants to start learning. I cant even tell you how great this week has been. Heavenly Father is blessing us more than I could have ever imagined. After 20 weeks of hard work here we are starting to see the fruits of our labors so to speak. I am loving it.

We are so excited for Christmas. We have multiple caroling activities planned to spread the Christmas cheer. The Christmas spirit does a lot to people. They are much more open to hearing about the Gospel and about Jesus Christ. I love it. Our zone name this transfer is the Grinch zone with the theme of "and then the Grinch thought of something he had never thought of before" so we are doing are best to be creative in finding people to teach that we havent thought of before.

Things are absolutely wonderful here, and I am so excited to be able to talk to you all very soon!

Novemberrr???

Well everyone said that November would be cold but we have yet to feel it. Seriously my scarves and mittens are getting ready to move on to someone else soon. I miss the snow terribly.
Well Transfer calls are this Saturday. I havent the slightest clue as to what will happen.All I know is that change really will be a good thing. Especially now. The only sad part about change is that Rass and I will be split up. no good.

Well our little area is doing good. We have our struggles here and there, but what area doesnt. I have gotten a lot of emails telling me to remember that people have their agency. It is such a hard thing to accept and understand. I so badly just want to force my investigators to come to church, or quit smoking but I cant. I dont understand how they have the happiness of the Gospel staring them in the face and they don't grab on and run. We are doing all that we can, most importantly we are trusting in the Lord. We are doing our best to be obedient and hard working and then letting Him do the rest.

Today we have a busy p-day. This morning we didnt want to watch the zone movie, so we watched Funny Girl at member's home instead. (They are the best members too, the Delatores. love them.) After which we had to head down the hill for a choir practice for the Christmas Community Program in December. Its a really great way to do missionary work. We sounded good. We did this same thing last Christmas, and it was my favorite thing of the season. (besides talking to my fam.) Then we are going to a sisters activity after this to say goodbye to Sister Adams. Ciao.

Our investigators our doing...well. Dwayne unfortunately moved in with his girlfriend, which automatically cancelled his baptism. They will be getting married shortly, but they now live in a different ward. Which means a free-bee for the Elders. I dont mind, I just want him baptized. Scott is doing good. Trying really hard to quit smoking and drinking. He started to cry when I told him that transfers were coming. He said that I had been the one from the start and that I had to finish this with him. I told him that the day that he can go to church I will be there and when he is baptized, even if it is after my mission. I love him, he is great.We have a couple new investigators that we are starting to work with. We are still going with Jessica. She is having the trial of a lifetime, and is being faced with the decision of either her family or the church. One that I could NEVER make. Then there is Laura, she needs to come to church. She said she would come to institute tonight, so we will see.

Anyway, things are good here. Can't wait for Thanksgiving. I can't believe its my second! Time really does fly.I love and miss you all.

My 2nd Halloween

Well the transfer is nearly half over, and I cant believe it. Its unreal to me that I am approaching my 2nd set of holidays. I never thought I would. Well everyone keeps telling us that on Halloween is when it starts to get cold, so we are anxiously awaiting for that. I know that 87 degree weather is good, but I am over it and want a change.We dont have any big plans for Halloween, we have to be in at 6 but with the joy of living with members we are going to help hand out candy. woo. That is about as exciting as it gets for us. oh well.

We have had quite the amazing week. Our investigator Jessica who decided to take the lessons last week is loving it. Her Dad is a pentecostal minister and doesnt know that she has been learning from the Mormons. Yesterday she told us that she quit one of her jobs so that she could come to church on Sunday. Can you believe that? A girl who isnt even a member is making bigger sacrifices than most members do to come to church on Sunday. I love it. We watched Testaments last night and we were all crying. 5 girls in one room, not good.

Dwayne is doing great. We had him attend a baptism so that he could see what it was like. He loved it. We teach him tomorrow. He is getting excited for Nov. 16, his big day.We have been fasting a lot lately for the missionary efforts in our ward, and we are really starting to see blessings. We got two member referrals the other day in our family ward, something that never happens. We were pretty excited.

On a side note. The members we live with are hilarious. Well the guy is. He is 80 years old and is one of the funniest old men I have ever met. I will definately be getting a picture. As we were doing service for him the other day he sat the three of us down and started giving us dating advice. He said "sometimes the real jewels are the uglies." So funny. His name is Bob Fuller. I wish everyone had the opportunity to meet him.

Well yet another transfer. Something a little bit different happened this time. Rassy and I stayed together, but we got a third. Her name is Sister Bowers. We are the threesome this transfer until we get another sister. So we had to move to a two car garage cause our one car garage wasnt big enough. We have more room now. We are still in the singles ward and the Spring Valley Lake ward. Our investigator Dwayne is set for Nov. 16. We are so proud of him, he is awesome. It is FINALLY getting cold here. We are turning on the heat, pulling out the blankets and putting on the mittens. I love it.

Well only 3 transfers left, and this is going to be a good one.

Well fall is kinda here in good ol' Apple Valley, yesterday it was only 92! The cool weather is a relief. ha. Well heat or not heat we are still working away. Rasmussen and I are doing grand together. We stay extremely busy with the singles ward and the family ward. In fact last night we finally got a hold of a potential investigator in the singles ward, Laura, and get this, we got a return appointment! woo! we felt good...da na ana nana ....and we knew that we would...so good, so good, We got an appointment!

The singles ward has been struggling, but we have faith that God will answer our prayers and we will start to see success. We cant believe that there is only 2 weeks left of this transfer. We hope and pray that we will be together next transfer too.I miss you all.

One Year

Well the work is rolling along. Sister Bingham has died, from missionary life. I was sad to kill her off, but it was her time. I am still in Apple Valley serving in the singles ward, and a family ward. Now I am with Sister Rasmussen. She has been out 7 months, and is from Woods Cross Utah. She is so much fun. We have a lot in common. Since we are both pretty new to the area, we are getting to know it together. It has been really fun. We are teaching some really great people. People have been waiting to hear the happy news of the Gospel, the Atonement, and Plan of salvation. We feel so lucky to be the ones to tell them. One in paticular is Scott. He has a really hard year, and has made some mistakes. He finds so much hope and happiness in the things that we teach him. There are a lot of really great things that will come o ut of the singles ward as well. The youth are so great at doing missionary work.

The other day we were tracting and we ran into this guy who wasnt interested but he kinda acted like Ace on Ace Ventura. (Jim Carrey) In his voice he said "Alright now, have a good day now, buh bye now, be careful out there, bu bye." We are still laughing about it. Man tracting would suck if it werent for the good old crazies. Anyway, things are really great out in the desert. Things are starting to cool down to 95 or 98, so its nice. I am looking forward to the cool air again, cause Ill be honest the gig is up with the heat. Alright, I love you all.

New Area, Old Companion

Hello Everyone!

I have left the hesperia and victorville area and Sister Adams and am now in Apple Valley with good old Sister Bingham. I was her companion down in Rialto, only for 6 short weeks, so I am happy to be with her again. This is her last transfer. She is still working really hard though. Today was our temple day. We missed the 8:15 session that we were supposed to go on. Our ride was 15 mins late, and drove slow enough to make me upset. It ended up being a blessing though because while we waited for the next session they allowed us to do initiatories which I havent done since the first time I went to the Temple. It was incredible. So amazing to be reminded of all the blessings that we have been promised in the temple if we live righteously. I loved it. Afterward our ride took us to Maccaroni grill. It was really gooood. We have been having so much fun. We are over the Spring Valley Lake family ward and the Ridgecrest Singles ward. SVL is all older people. They are two of the funnest wards. The single people are so awkward around eachother. Sometimes I look around for a camera crew just to make sure that I am not in the 3rd singles ward movie, because honestly sometimes I wonder. I swear I wasnt that awkward, but they have me seriously worried about what I might be like when I get home. eee.
The work is going really well. We have some investigators in each ward. One of them in the family ward is a man named Scott that I OYM'd in Hesperia. He is doing so well, and is eating up the gospel. It has been really full circle for me to see. I love it. Our investigator closest to baptism is a little boy named Alucard (dracula backwards). He is 9 years old. His mom is recently re-activated. I love their family. I feel so blessed to be able to go into these peoples homes and be a part of their life in the most beautiful way.

The weather is really hot. Sometimes I would rather die than tract in 105 degree weather because then I would be in heaven. But I try not to think like that. I am looking forward to fall again, it cant come soon enough in my sweaty book.
Our apartment is semi-infested with black widows. We just had the place sprayed and we find dead 'creatures' all the time. Nasty.

I still love it though. I know that there is nothing better I could be doing with my life than this wonderful work of the Lords. I love you all. I miss you too!

Well well well, the end of another transfer approaches and I cant believe it. Another 6 weeks gone just like that. Sister Adams and I have been doing great. There are some really good things going on in both of wards. We recently had to re-write our ward mission plans. Sister Adams and I took the liberty of doing it ourselves due to lack of trust in our ward mission leaders... ha. But we did them and they turned out to be really great. One of our new goals is to pick 5 focus families from each ward, for each month. We will visit them every week and help them and encourage and check up on their missionary work. The idea is that by the end of the month they will have a new family for us to teach in their home or at least a new investigator. So far we are seeing amazing things happen.

It hasnt been too hot lately. It rained for a few minutes the other day and it has kept the temps in the high 90s which is nice. We still try and do any tracting in the morning so we arent dripping sweat at each door.Well I love you all, and I hope that you are all sharing this wonderful gospel with everyone you meet.

I feel as though I havent written a group email for a bit. so here it goes. We just got transfer news this last Saturday. Sister Adams and I are staying together. To keep from saying anything negative I will just stop there.

We went to the temple this morning, which as always was very much needed. The feelings that you get there are unreal. I have made it a goal to go to the temple 3xs a week when I get home. I hope I can stick to it.

We have had some really good things happen around here. We had 2 part member families come to church this last week. And we got 4 new investigators. We are having a ward activity on Saturday. Pray that people will show up! Our investigator Kayla is sort of on hold right now. She doesnt really know what she wants, if she wants to marry Jeremy or leave him. She did a lot of drugs growing up so has an immature mind set. I love her though, and pray that she will make the right decision.

It is starting to warm up again. I am not really looking forward to it. Most of my shirts are already yellow in the armpits. gross, i know. oh well. I am the one that has to wear them.

Well I never thought I would say this, but I love the desert. Despite the dirt, wind and dirt. I love it here. We are having a lot of fun while doing this wonderful work, and I think that is just the way it should be. We are staying super busy with two wards, they both want all the attention. Right now our big focus is on Kayla our investigator. We are trying to find her a place to stay. She is pregnant with no where to go. But she believes in God and Jesus Christ, and has so much faith that things will work out.

WE are also planning a ward activity, that will hopefully turn out better than the one our ward planned. (no one came but us and our ward mission leader). I have been making invitations that we are taking around. SO hopefully there will be a good turn out.The weather has been kinda strange lately. Cold and rainy. Everyone says it is this curse of the Orange Show that some indian man cursed. For more information try wikipedia.

Hear the desert ringing...

Well another transfer has come and gone and I find my self all the way up in the desert. No lie. There is dirt, powerlines and joshua trees everywhere. I love it. So far it isnt too hot to handle. There is usually a nice breeze. My companion, Sister Adams and I, live with a member. Her name is Sister Latimer. She is 80 years old. She is a sweet heart. She doesnt do much, but walk around the mall and get her hair done etc. We cover two wards, which cover a huge span of desert in the cities of Hesparia and Victorville. The work is really good up here. We are doing a lot of finding, and have a few good investigators. Mothers day was wonderful, and I think I hold the mission record of how long I talked, but I loved every minute of it. I am almost half way done, can you believe it?
I can and I cant.

Well we are having a busy week this week. Monday we attended the funeral of our Stake President Hadfield who died unexpectedly last week. He was only 57 years old. He was a really great man, and focused his life on serving the Lord. It was a really good service, and he will be missed. Then on Tuesday we spent the day doing service for Bro and Sis Perez. It is our favorite place to do service. We helped him paint and assemble a part of his shed. Today, P-day, we are going to go bowling with some of our zone. Then tomorrow we have a zone meeting of some kind, and we also need to begin packing. On Friday we will be moving to our new apartments that are cheaper but close by. Sandra's Baptism is final, and set for the 28th. Our ward mission leader wanted to change it because he is out of town. Sandra is really excited and so is Angelica. Our other investigator Jenn let us know that she is ready and she will have a date tonight hopefully. So things are good and busy. I could not be happier doing anything else. I love my mission, and I love the people here. I cant imagine my life with out them. Thanks for all your prayers. I love you.

balloons and baptisms

Well life is still great here in the armpit of California. Who would have thought? Today we are having a BBQ as a zone, and will be playing water balloon volleyball. So last night we filled up about 300 water balloons. It was an intense time, filled with laughter and much wetness. Yesterday we met with Sandra and she scared us at first. She said she didnt want to be baptized on the 19th. ahh. Then she said that she had something going on, but on the 26th she for sure wants to be. phew. So here date is moved back a week. Which is fine with me! As long as she is still committed. We also committed Jenn to be baptized and she accepted. They just need to set a wedding date first. It has been kinda cold and overcast here, but I am going to enjoy it while it lasts because I know the fearsome heat that is ahead. How is everyone at home doing? Aunts and Uncles? Cousins? Grandparents? All still up and going? I cant believe that soon it will be May. Time flies. I love you all, and I hope you are doing so well.

So, too bad for all of you that you arent a missionary. We had such a great week. Hence the title...'WOWZERS'. We have 3 new investigators that we started teaching. All of which seem like ligit(sp) investigators. One of them is named Jenn, she is dating a returned missionary. With no pressure from him she started reading the BOM and coming to church. She asked to meet with us. LAst night we taught her the restoration. The spirit was off the wall. so great. Then another investigator we found doing 3 doors down. 3 doors down is this new thing that President wants us to do. If we have an appointment that bails then we knock 3 doors in each direction. Its really cool, and I know that it works. Especially now. His name is Zenen and he just had back surgery. We helped him do some digging yesterday. IT was hard and my back is killing me now, but he said we could come back and talk about the BOM more and he wants us to come for dinner. Terry is doing well. She feels like her prayers are finally being answered and she is coming to church. Also our crazy one, Leigh, is actually starting to understand things. so that is great. And of course, Sandra and Angelica are still on for the 19th. They are both awesome. See what I mean? Too bad you arent a missionary. All these wonderful people that I am so blessed have come into my life. I LOVE IT! I do miss you all, and even though the work is great, doesnt mean I dont want mail. please.

oh ye sinners of Salt Lake, repent of your sins, and write your missionary! kidding. but seriously. write me.We had a great week! Zone Conference was yesterday and it was the best yet. I say that every time though. I bore my testimony and I was terrified. I bare my testimony all day everyday. I felt the spirit inside me so strongly, that it almost hurt. I had to go up, and I started crying before I even got up there. This transfer we are focusing on the culture of the church, and how weird it is to investigators. Also on how we can bear more frequent testimony of our Savior. It will be great. Our investigator Sandra committed to a baptism date (finally) of April 19th. Her and her 9 year old daughter. I am really excited and happy for them. So Mom and Dad that will be my anniversary gift to you! :)We are going on a hike again today, although much shorter. I will be sure to take pictures. I am doing well, and hope you all are as well.

Hello everyone. Transfers were yesterday and for this first time in my mission I am staying with my companion longer than 6 weeks.
Sister T and I were both really excited to be staying together. Plus our room mate SIster Pasoni is training this transfer, so we have the new greenie Sister Rasmussen in our apartment as well. She is from UT and seems really great. I hope I will be able to serve with her one day. So Sister T and I are both excited for this next transfer. We know that some good things will be happening. In fact, one good thing has already happened, we committed Heidi, one of our investigators to baptism. She is really excited, and so great. We love her. Also our other investigator Sandra is getting closer to baptism. We are having dinner with her tomorrow night and will hopefully be able to set a date with her. I went to Target today to buy some pants. "fat pants" because I dont fit in any of my jeans anymore. All the girls pants were so low and curvy to my fat, that I got frustrated/depressed and gave in and bought boy pants. They are way cuter anyway. And I think it is the style now days right? ha. 6 months and I have already lost any sense of fashion. oh well. I love you all. The Church is true and no one can tell me otherwise. manuia le aso. We had a really good week. Our investigator Terry came to church and brought her husband and two twin boys. Sister T and I were thrilled! We love her so much, and we can really see how much she is changing. We went to the temple this morning and it was really nice. It felt like it had been a long time since I had been there. I love the temple, the spirit there is unlike any other. Transfers are in 2 weeks, i will let you know what happens. Everything is good though. We are having rainy weather off and on still. Missionary work at its best

I am so lucky. Me and sister T. are getting along so well. I love her. We work hard and well together. We are blessed to be in two incredible wards, where for the first time in a long time the work is doing so well. They love and are so excited to have sister missionaries! Yesterday we had a really cool miracle. We both felt we needed to stop by our investigators house who we hadnt seen in awhile. On our way, our dinner called and cancelled. So we got to her house right as she was pulling in. She says "You must have known I was thinking of you." So this investigator, Terry, is amazing. She has a lot of faith, and wants religion in her home so bad. Her husband is a little hesitant about us. So we were visiting with her, and she says "Do you have dinner plans tonight? My husband is cooking dinner and this would be a good way to get to know him" HOLY CRAP! I was on cloud nine. We had dinner with them. It was so great. I think that her husband really is coming around. Then to top it all off, at the end of the night we taught the restoration to this "golden" investigator that a member referred. She is 18. She already is reading the BOM and prayed about it. She came to church twice. I love her. So things are going well. I love life right now. I feel liek I am on cloud nine. I hope you are all doing fabulous at home. Give Colton a hug for me, and tell him to keep writing me.

Four for Four

Well transfers have come and gone. My fourth transfer, and I now have my fourth companion. Her name is sister Tonumaipea. Or sister T. From Somoa. It was an interesting transfer. I left my ward, stayed in my apartment, got two new wards. Left Sister Hollingshead, but she stayed in the apartment. Sister T lost her companion and Sister Hollingshead got a new companion Sister Pasoni from Tonga. So NOW, I am living with Sister T (my comp) Sister Hollingshead and Sister Pasoni. Three girls that I have zero in common but the Gospel, and we are having so much fun already. I am excited for the new wards. I was sad to leave the Chaffey ward however. They were a really great ward. We are going to be super busy now that we are over two wards! I am excited for that. I already know that this transfer is just going to fly by. We looked over our area books last night, and it looks like there is a lot of good out there waiting to be done. I think we will make a good pair together. I absolutely love polynesians.Holy cow, I do not know how to spell. I went to a Chiropractor on Tuesday who is a member of the church and will do work for free. He aligned my neck, and said that my back and neck will need a lot of work. He said a may have a couple ribs out of place, and that is why my back has been causing me so much pain and it might explain my shortness of breath. I really like him and am going back tomorrow. He said i had to stop popping my back. It is so hard!! Anyway, that is all I have to report on this week, I am sure there will be more news next week.

Everyone sounds very cold over there. All I need is a sweater to keep me warm, although all the californians think I am crazy. Im sure next winter I will be all bundled up. We had a really good week though. We met with that part member family last night and taught the first. We watched the Restoration movie. The husband bore his testimony. It was cool. They said they would read the BOM together and come to church on Sunday and that we could come back next week. WOO HOO. We had a good day on Saturday too of walking around and talking to people ALL day. But I think some good things will come out of it, and hopefully appointments will be a result of it as well. So life is good here in Rancho.

A Mission is a Popsicle

Time is flying by the longer I am out. I heard someone compare a mission to a popsicle... the first half is the hardest and the second half goes the fastest. And I can see that beginning to ring true, and I am not even half way. This week was a good one. There is a part member family in the ward, well a lot actually. But one that we have been visiting. They are really warming up to us. It is really neat to see. Then another part member family, the husband is less active and the wife is not a member. The husbands brother is in another ward, and is less active also. The elders in his ward are working with him. Anyway this week we have an appointment to go teach the wife and husband, and the brother wanted to be there. It was so exciting for us to hear! I cant wait to see how it goes. I am thrilled that she wants to learn and that the brothers want to start coming back to church. I have really come to realize the importance of coming to church on my mission. It is so important that we renew those covenants we made at baptism, and if we don't we wont reveive that wonderful promised blessing of always having His spirit to be with us. its genius! I went on exchanges yesterday up to the desert, and got to spend the day with Sister Rathgeber. She goes home in March. We had a lot of fun, and taught two member refferals the first lesson. The member was there and helped us teach. The spirit was incredibley strong. We committed both of them to baptism and they said yes. It was unbelieveably awesome. I hope all is well at home and you are all enjoying the snow! It is a beautiful 70 degrees today. :)

Its cold here, but not as cold as it is in Utah thank goodness. Well, this transfer is half over now, and I cant believe it. So fast. Things are going well though. I found an assisted living center to go and volunteer at, so this week me and sister Hollingshead will start going there. We arent teaching anyone right now, mostly tracting. But we have faith and hope that we will find those people who are waiting and are prepared. There are a lot of really cool less active and part member families here though, and we are excited to continue working with them and getting them back to church. Last week we went to visit a less active at about 8 at night, in the rain. It was dark and we were heading up to the door and I saw what I thought was a box on the porch, nope! turns out it was a huge chow dog that sat up and then stood. Scared the living daylights out of us. We turned to run and my comp tripped over a planter box thing causing her to face plant and me trying not to laugh. Needless to say we made it back to the car safe, and had a good laugh later. So things are really good here. So far I have kept up with my new years resolution to not eat chocolate and to read the standard works all the way through (still working on that one.)

Well I have spent my first week in Rancho sick. Hopefully by tomorrow I will start feeling better. New Years was fun. We had to be in at 6pm. We had dinner at the Bishops house. Some other sisters came to our apartment and we played games and ate food. We all went around and said our favorite thing about this last year and what we are looking forward to next year. Everyone in the room was excited to go home in this next year...ha ha except for me. I was the only one that will still be here. Kinda weird... But it was a fun night and we were in bed by 11. I am excited for the new year. 2008 will be a good one, one that I will never forget, that is for sure. I hope you all had a great new years, and that your resolutions was to do more missionary work. :) ha.

Well transfers were the day after Christmas. I have mixed emotions about them. I was transferred to Rancho. I was sad to leave Rialto and Sister Bingham. I really loved it there, and had grown to love the people there so much. I felt really comfortable with the ward and the area. But maybe that is why I was moved. So now I am with Sister Hollingshead. She is super nice. She goes home in 3 months, so I think I will probably kill her here in Rancho. She is from a small town in NY, and is going to go to BYU Idaho to be an elementary School teacher... She will be good. Our apartment is pretty nice, and there are four of us living there Sister Poulsen and Sister Tonumiaepia too. It should be lots of fun. Today is p-day, and we are just going to laze around and recoop from Christmas. Speaking of Christmas, it was wonderful! We went to a members house in the morning for breakfast where we stuffed our faces with fresh fruit and eggs benedict. So good. I also opened presents over the phone with the family! So great. I was really happy to get a new red sweater and a skirt and some lotion and pictures. I have the best family. Sorry to those of you that arent in it. Then we spent the day visiting people and delivering goodies and presents (mostly re-gifting candy and lotions that the ward gave us. HA) Then we finished off the night by going to Kathleens house, a recent convert. She made this really big Christmas dinner with all sorts of southern soul food. We called home from her house. I talk to my family for a good 3 or 4 hours. Sister Bingham only wanted to talk for 2 hours...And then we watched Its a Wonderful Life, until it was curfew time. So overall it was a very splendid day. There was no snow though, so that was a bummer. The pictures of home will have to do I suppose. Thanks for all the cards and letters and money I received! It was much much appreciated.

Dreaming of a White Christmas

We have had an insanely good week. We had our wards annual Christmas parties. First they had breakfast with Santa with pancakes and sausage. It was a huge success, and we had a couple investigators and less actives there. Then that same night we had the Christmas dinner for adults only. There was dinner and an array of entertainment, finished by the entire ward singing the 12 days of christmas with each table assigned a day, and they were required to do some sort of action pertaining to their day. Our table was 11 pipers piping. We had tears running down our face by the end.THen on Sunday night we went with two sisters in the Fontana zone and some member from their ward and went caroling. We had on our Christmas best (Santa hats that Binghams mom sent) and used our best Christmas voices. It was really fun.I cant believe Christmas is in 5 days, it sure doesnt feel like it. Tomorrow we are having a mission conference/mission christmas party. That should be fun. It is funny the things you get excited for on a mission, like mail, or mission conferences. We even bought new sweaters for the occaision, because they will be taking the mission picture.Last night at our dinner appointment we read the Christmas story with the family. It was so awesome. I have been reading it a lot this transfer and in Jesus the Christ too. I have come to appreciate Mary more so this year. Her faith and willingness to follow the will of God is incredible. We can learn so much from her.I hope all is well at home, and that you are all giving many thanks for the snow, because I am only dreaming of a white Christmas. boo hoo.I love you and wish you all the merriest Christmas yet.

Sister Bingham and I have had a great week dreaming of a white Christmas. The weather has been pretty nice, rainy a couple of days. The weather hits 60 and everyone here whips out their scarves and coats... and its starting to wear off on me. We are so excited for Christmas! Although transfers are the day after Christmas. We are crossing our fingers that we get one more transfer together.We have been doing our best to spread the Christmas cheer. We took sugar cookies and icing and what not to an investigators to decorate and have a Christmas family home evening. We taught them about how to hold family home evening as well. It was bueno. This Saturday is the annual breakfast with Santa. Which consists of pancakes and getting your picture taken with a member (who closely resembles Santa). We are planning on going caroling/tracting a bunch next week, and we will be wearing the santa hats that Binghams mom sent us. It will be good times in Rialto.We had a baptism on Saturday for Sammy. She just turned 18 and has been waiting to be baptized for awhile. Everything went really well, and we were really exctied for her. we have been teaching this young couple Teresa and Miguel, who we invited over to a members home for dinner on Sunday and it was superb. Hopefully they will be baptized by the end of the year. Also on Sunday we had the chance to sing in a missionary choir at the Rancho Cucamonga Stake Christmas Program. Woo! what a blast. It was the most fun Sister Cain has seen. They had all these different singers and choirs sing, and then lots of cookies were served. I love this time of year. Everyone is so happy and excited to be a missionary. It is hard to be away from family and friends though. Oh well next year right? awe shoot, I mean the next year after that. :)I love you all, and I hope you have the merriest of Christmas' and remember charity never faileth.

There have been some good times in Rialto. Sister Bingham and I are having an immense amount of fun. On Friday it rained a ton. Outside our apartment flooded. To get out we had to wade through about half a foot of mud water. I took pictures that will be coming shortly. Then on Sunday we had two new investigators at church! woo. Then later that night we were able to go see the Christmas Devotional. Man the prophet amazes me. Brilliant! (as Cicely would say). This morning we went to the temple. It was such a good morning. I cant believe That me and Bingham have been together for 4 weeks already! whoosh. time just flew by, did you see it? I didnt.My love for this gospel is growing more and more everyday. I love it. I love the simplicity and truthfulness of our Heavenly Fathers plan for us. Everyday I am slapped in the face by something that makes me realize how blessed we are. I am so excited for Christmas! I miss you all. Have a snowball fight and some hot chocolate for me!loves and kisses.

I mean cain.Well its a good thing I ate like 4 pieces of pie at Thanksgiving. I think I gained 5lbs on that day alone. We had a really fun day though. We did service in the morning at the Colton community center. And early in the morning me and Bingham went for our own little "cold" turkey run. Good times. Then We delivered bags and bags of cookies to less actives and recent converts and the bishop etc. Then we ate at the Stake Presidents house as well at a few members and recent converts for pie. Oh boy was it a good day.So currently I am just trying to recover from that. My and Bingham are having a ton of fun and I am learning a lot from her. I will try and get pictures off next week!I love you all. I miss the salt lake valley and my fellow citizens that reside there. But nothing beats ge-tto rialto. :)

quick note. I love my new companion. Sister Bingham.She is amazing.There is so much good work to do in Rialto!We are doing service and eating a lot of food tomorrow.Today we are going up to Lyttle Creek to go hiking.Zone conference was on Monday. AMAZING. The spirit was so strong.This transfer we are to read the 4 gospels and 3 nephi chap. 11-18. We are to learn more about our Savior and become more like him to better serve him. I love it! It will make the holiday season super.

6 weeks have come and gone

Well 6 weeks have come and gone just like that. Transfers were yesterday and sadly Sister Rathgeber was sent to the desert. I am staying here in good old Rialto, and my new companion is Sister Bingham. She is wonderful! She is from Oregon and she loves to run just like me! Prayers are answered. I was sad to see Rath go, but I think it is for the best. Sister Bingham was born in Rialto and then was gone for 6 months and is now back. She will be really good. She just her 9 month mark. I am so excited to get to work with her. Kathleen and Dominuques baptism went really well. The spirit was amazing there and it was so awesome to see how happy and how far she has come. Everything else is going great, things are kinda hectic with transfers but hopefully we will get right back into the swing of things soon.

Kathleen (our favorite) and her daughter dominique are getting baptized on Saturday and are more golden than ever! I am really excited. So I am not sure if I told everyone already but our mission has had a goal of getting 1950 baptisms by the end of the year. It started with President Wilson and now that President Sanchez is here we are trying to "finish the miracle". We have 95 baptisms to go. So in order to do our part to help, we sifted through our investigators and dropped about 4 of the non progressing ones... or at least cut back our visits. We set a goal of 15 hrs of finding(tracting) a week. So far we have 4 new investigators! The Lord is very aware of our and yours endless prayers! Seriously so inredible. It has just been such a good week. Transfers are on Tuesday and I really hope that I stay with Rath. We work really well together. Pray for that. I hope everyone is having a good week. You are all in my prayers and thoughts.

We are all soo tired because we have been doing service 6 hours a day at the disaster relief place. Well this past week I think we have done enough service to last the rest of the mission! Since the fires have burned so many homes, and so many have been evacuated they have all been sent to different event centers for safety and shelter. We have been there 6hours a day everday. 3 different zones have been rotating shifts. 6am to noon, noon to 6pm, or 6pm to midnight. We wear these bright yellow shirts that say "Mormon Helping Hands". Everyone loves us. It is awesome. It leaves us hardly anytime for missionary work, but President Sanchez says this should be our first priority. Our first day there we saw the govenator. It was pretty cool. The fires are pretty much contained so hopefully everyone can have a good halloween. We are going tonight 6pm to midnight. The elders are going to play the guitar and were going to throw a little party for some of the kids that are at the shelter. Service is great. I highly recommend it to everyone. We are teaching lessons there too! Our investigators are doing good, coming to church... The work is good. :) So is mail. So write me. You know the address.

Well this week has been full of windy, smokey ash. The fires are well on fire. Some of the missionaries have been emergency transferred out of Lake Arrowhead. We havent really been affected by it, other than the smoke and ash. The wind doesnt help. But we have to keep working. Everyone thinks we are nuts to be out in the wind. We think its nice. It spices things up a bit when your skirt flies up as you are talking about Joseph Smith. One lady came out, wrapped her arms around us and said "Oh Lord Jesus, bless these young ladies Lord Jesus" It was awesome. So many great stories like that. People in Cali are classic.The work is going good. All of our investigators are staying strong and I love them. I cant believe this transfer only has 2 more weeks left. Crazy.I hope all is well back in Salt Lake. I heard it snowed, I am jealous. Pray for rain here, we need it bad.I love you all, and I know this church is true!Love sister Cain.

I have been out over a month. Weird. Well the work in Rialto is definatley moving forward. We had 7 investigators in church this last week. One that I really love her name is Kathleen. Sister Rathgeber met her about 2 weeks before I got her. Teaching the lessons to her is incredible. We teach her something and then she starts to testify about it. She already has such a strong spirit. I love it. Her and her daughter dominique are getting baptized on Nov 10th. Hopefully me and rath will still be here. I cant believe this transfer is almost half over. Time flies. I hope everyone is doing well at home. I miss you all and I love you even more. WRITE ME! please. :) and be sure to check the blog... Well I made it one week. It went by really slow at first but now it goes by really fast. I am getting to know my companion better, and we are having lots of fun. She is from New York, so if you can imagine she is loud, direct and blunt a lot of the time, but thats why I love her. She is an amazing teacher so I hope to learn a lot from her. She has been in Rialto for 4 months, so she thinks we will only be together for one transfer. That kind of bums me out, but I am trusting the Lord.

So Rialto...pretty much the most getto city of my mission. Our ward is way diverse and sooo loving. The members are amazing. I am getting to know them better and just love them more and more. Plus the investigators that we are working with right now... even more amazing. I love them. There is this couple Dave and Julee, and they have a son Donovan. Dave is black and Julee is white. They tell us the funniest stories about dirty looks black women give them for being a bi-racial couple. Hilarious. But they have really strong faith. Dave is on dialysis, and is having a hard time believing in prayer, plus he works nights at stater bros. He is manager and is really stressed, and doesnt like his co-workers. We told him the best way to love them is pray for them, and serve them. He didnt like that idea, but after promising him many times and telling him to use his faith that it would work. And he committed! woo.They are both working towards baptism. He has to wait awhile because of dialosis, but I just love them so much.Ok, well my time is running out. I love everyone and I hope all is well. I havent gotten any letters from anyone... I thought I had better friends than that. Bummer.
Well church is true, and I love it.

Well I made it safely here to San Bernardino. The flight went by really fast, and when we landed our President and his wife were waiting for us. They are really nice, and I think I am going to like them a lot.We sat through some orientation meetings, ate some lunch, took pictures (ill figure out a way to send them to you) and then we met our companions/trainers.

My comps name is Sister Rathgreber...thats wrath-gray-bur... She is from New York. She doesnt really understand the concept of personal privacy and property. She doesnt really give herself any bounderies. Her name is Alli too. She is overly confident with herself, and is constantly talking about how good she is, or how Elders always end up liking her and she has to set them straight. I think some of it is just all in her head, but for her sake I will just let it stay there. She does connect with people really well, and has a gift to be able to teach, I really admire that, and hope I learn alot from her. She is loud and talks a lot. Which is good, but bad too because it kind of overpowers me and then I end up not saying too much.

Our first day (yesterday) we came back to the apartment, kinda ghetto, but not too bad. Then we had an appointment to go teach this family...4 sisters and a brother. The youngest sister is 11 and her name is Madeline, then a sister in 10th grade her name is Talia. THey were the only two there yesterday. I havent met the older sisters and Brother. Then after that we went to dinner at a members home. The Bravo family. They are from Ecuador, so they made some kind of Mexican dish. We have dinner appointments pretty much every night. My comp said she has gained about 25 pounds. She just keeps saying that now that she has a skinny companion I have to help her be skinny too...doesnt really make sense to me but oh well. After dinner we tried to go to less active peoples homes, but no one was home. So, we went and met the ward mission leader. Brother van.. something. Their house was... well disgusting. Junk and trash and stink everywhere. They seem like a nice family though. I almost want to teach them about how "cleanliness is next to godliness" ...but I guess its not my place. Thank goodness I had parents who taught me that. I may have to teach my companion a little about how to clean a shower. :)

Today is P-day (wednesday), this morning was study time and what not...and for the first time since I left I sort of broke down. I was reading preach my gospel to my comp, and I just started crying. I wasnt really sure why, but the tears started flowing. I think it is just a little overwhelming, and I dont want to let anyone (including the Lord) down. But my comp and I talked and I feel better. One day at a time, I guess. I am really starting to rely on the Lord to help me and give me strength.

My comp wants to go play volleyball with the Elders today for like 4 hours. Not exactly what I had in mind, but maybe Ill play for a bit then write some letters. So I think email is for pretty much anyone, so you can do either one. I like letters, but emails are great too. When you send packages send them priority mail... not fed ex or ups, they will only deliver those at zone conference.Well I am excited to be here, and I am praying harder than I have ever prayed before. I need your prayers too! I need all the help I can get out here. I love you all so much. I miss you, keep the letters coming.

Our president challenged us to read the Book of Mormon in 6 weeks (one transfer) so thats 12 pages a day. We are to highlight any promised blessings that the Lord gives Lehi and his descendents. So feel free to read along with us. :)talk to you later!

I finally get to set up my e-mail! woo. Hey Em will you forward this to family and friends? Ill mail you that list of email contacts today. Thanks.Well today is P-day, hence the email time. We just got back from the temple for the last time here at the MTC and it was great. On our way up there, there was this older guy with a bunch of female names and he asked us to do the endowment. He gave us an envelope too, so I just mailed them back off to him.I cant believe I leave here in 3 days. As sad or scary as it might be, I am way more excited and anxious to leave. And needless to say, I am ready for a new companion. Dont get me wrong, she is great. Its just time...anywhooo.

I fly out on Tuesday with a district I have only met once. 7 Elders, and me, the only sister. I guess I would have been in their district but since I am the only sister I got put in a district where no one is in my mission. Oh well, I am still excited.As a class we have been practicing giving lesson two and incorporating commandments into the lesson, such as word of wisdom or law of chastity. It has been good. Its hard to believe how much I have learned in such a short time. I never realized how much I didnt know.:)

I love it here, but that doesnt mean I dont think about home. Now that Im gone it seems like you all go to lunch, play games, and sleepover way more than normal. But I think it is just because Im hearing it through letters.

I have been going to the gym everyday now that my ankle is better. Its kinda lame though because gym times is right after a meal. So either you skip that meal, dont work out, or make yourself sick by excercising with a full stomache. I usually eat light and then bike or jog. My comp gets winded just going up the stairs, and always asks if we can nap during gym time. Its frustrating, but I stand my ground, in a kind way of course.

I didnt get a letter from Dad this week... Im a little concerned. Hope all is well. I did get the package that Mom sent and it was amazing. I wore the black blouse yesterday, and it works great. Everything in there was great. Thanks Mom. The only one of my friends that has written is Sarah of course. So a special thanks to all of my good friends.I got some pictures developed, and put on CD today so I will send those off today. Emily will put them on the blog... right? ok thanks.

This is getting long...but I just have a few "shout outs"Cicely- Sometimes when I get sad, and I feel like I am about to cry I think of movie lines and quotes of ours and it chases the almost tears away. But then today my biggest fear was realized... when I get home you will all know new movie lines and I wont!! That will be just awful. So heres the deal... whenever a good one comes in play you MUST write me and keep me in the game. Ok? thanks. Are you confused about that? do you think weve landed in the future?

Well I'm here. I made it through the first day! My companion is nice. That was a relief. Her name is Sister Richardson and she is from Wyoming.

I can definately say that the MTC is like no other place. I like it though. Sundays here are incredible. Jam packed with studying, meetings, firesides,choir. It's great. Everyone says once you make it to Sunday you are golden. So I made it, woo..

Its funny because I had no idea that Senior missionaries came here too...but I guess that makes sense. They are all so sweet and cute. I love them.

The Elders in my district started a mail contest. Letters are 1 point and packages are 5 points so if you all could set a little time aside to write me or send packages it would really help me out.

Today we had to practice giving the first lesson to some Elders. It was harder than I thought! Suddenly I am grateful to go English speaking. I hear Elders walking around saying to themselves things like "shee saw waa" and I can't imagine trying to learn a language plus teaching. Crazy. So kudos to David & Libby.

Our purpose as missionaries: "is to invite others to come unto Christ by helping them recieve the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and his Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost and enduring to the end"

12 pairs of nylons...check.

I really am so excited. Not scared, luckily.

I am being set apart on September 11th at 6:00 pm
Everyone and anyone is welcome to come to my house afterward around 7:00 pm
